The Tar Heels kicked off their third home game of the season on Thursday night hosting the undefeated 5-0-1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Tar Heels entered the night ranked #1 in the nation with a perfect 6-0-0 record.
For the first 30 minutes of the match a defensive battle took place, with each team only registering one shot on goal. In the 17th minute Lotte Hubben-Moy was issued a yellow card for a hard foul. However, in the 36th minute the Tar Heels broke the stalemate off of a goal from senior forward Zoe Redei, assisted by redshirt-senior forward Ru Mucherera and Junior Defender Lois Joel. The Tar Heels would not stop there, scoring again 2 minutes later off of a goal by Ru Mucherera, assisted by Julia Dorsey.
In the second half the Tar Heel offense continued its attack. In the 79th minute Alessi Russo scored off of an assist from Isabel Cox after she stole the ball. Russo struck again in the 87th minute off of assists from Bridgette Andrzejewski and Alexis Strickland. The Tar Heel defense shut it down in the second half. Wake Forest recorded only two shots in the second half, neither on goal.
The Tar Heels 4-0 victory over Wake Forest extends their record to 7-0-0. The Heels will play again on Sunday at Arkansas.
