It was Senior Day in Chapel Hill, as the UNC Women’s Soccer team took on Virginia Tech for the final home game of the regular season. Coming off their biggest win of the season Thursday night against Florida St, the Tar Heels would continue their impressive run by defeating Virginia Tech 2-0.
The Tar Heels came out aggressively in the first half registering 4 shots on goal of a total 9 shots. The Heels would take the lead in the 42nd minute when, Zoe Redei turned and fired from outside the box, with the ball ricocheting off the cross bar into the net.
The dominant attack of the Tar Heels persisted in the second half. The Tar Heels would reel off 7 more shots in the second half. The Heels would score again late in the second half when Isabel Cox dispossessed the Virginia Tech defense, dribbled into the box and put in a shot to the far right corner that was deflected in for a Virginia Tech own goal.
With this victory the UNC Women’s Soccer team secured its 23rd ACC regular season championship. With another shutout victory at home the Tar Heels have completed the regular season home schedule without conceding a goal at home. The next match for the team will be at Miami on Thursday October 31st.
