Club History

Former player and international star, Heather O'Reily and Anson Dorrance.

Legendary Coach Anson Dorrance said it best when he and Greg Elinsky started the Tar Heel Soccer Club in 2018:

I remember telling my first recruits that I wanted to build the best women’s soccer program in the country. We have done that, and we will never lose sight of what it takes to be the best. It’s time to throw the gates open and bring more fans into our community. If we all work together, we can fill every seat and have even more fans standing at every game. I know we can make the game day experience the best in collegiate women’s soccer.

Coach Dorrance assembled a group of motivated Carolina soccer supporters to form the Board of Directors of the Club. Notable Board members:

Mr. Greg Elinsky (Father of former Tar Heel & pro soccer player Abby Elinsky)

Mr. Jim Heavner (Broadcaster & Media)

Mr. Jim Steeg (NFL Executive)

Mr. Hassan Pinto (Entrepreneur and Father of former Tar Heel & pro soccer player Brianna Pinto)

Mr. Alex Dickey (UNC Faculty and Father of former Tar Hell & pro soccer player Claudia Dickey)

Mr. Andrew Dilworth (Club Treasurer)

In 2018-2019, the Founding Fifty members ignited the Club's base as committed members for ten years. After the initial fifty memberships were sold, the Club created the Champions membership for families who wished to invest in the Club for the long term.

Annual Members were added and the membership base grew to around 400 members.
